We've just moved in to our new house and it has an integrated washer dryer looks ok quite new. I've also brought my year old 9kg washing machine not integrated which i rate quite highly unfortunately i can have the two of them, i don't know what one to keep, I've never had a washer dryer but I'm not sure they are rated.

Depends, there are some crappy washer dryers and some ok ones. I've just bought one and it comes highly rated by Which with accompanying high price tag. We have a hotpoint at the moment and it's total rubbish.
If you have space for a washer and seperate dryer it will always be betters

A separate washer and dryer are always better. Do you have room for a dryer?

longearedbat · 06/06/2019 16:27

Could you stack a washer and a dryer?

MancaroniCheese · 06/06/2019 16:32

Separate are always better if you can. Unfortunately I cannot so have a washer dryer...it is ok but not as good as separate.

I don't use the dryer function that much as I air dry where possible, but it is great when you need something in a hurry or it is pouring with rain.

My tumble dryer will have to go in the shed as no space for it in the house! Why do new houses have no storage, my last house was 100 years old and i had my choice of tumble dryer cupboards!

Separates are better than WM/TD
WM/TD is better than no TD

I've heard the Miele one is very good ... and very expensive

I've never had room for both a a washer and a dryer so I have always had washer/dryers.

If I did have room then I probably still wouldn't because I would struggle moving wet clothing to a dryer.

Just remember you can only dry a half wash load, so you either have to take half a wash out or just wash and dry a half load.

Obviously you do not need to use the dryer part at all.

I've just had mine repaired, after 10 years of use, the repair cost £70.

I've only had one washer/dryer. It was integrated and the dryer was useless—the clothes would end up steamy rather than dry.

I didn't like the fact that it was integrated either—when the cupboard door was closed the washing machine door also had to be closed, so I had the choice of either a mouldy-smelling machine or a cupboard door that was half-open all the time.

Thankfully the washer/dryer broke after around 12 years. I then discoverd that a freestanding machine wouldn't fit into the same space, so I now have an integrated washer (no dryer) and have removed the cupboard door in favour of a curtain.
