Patio breaching DPC

It looks like the patio outside our back door has bridged the DPC and is letting water under the floor. I don't even know where to start with this, is it an insanely expensive fix and who is the person to contact, a builder?

get the floor up and dried underneath and see if you can spy where it starts from....ripping up that laminate is definitely the best thing to do for a start

What happened when you tried the bucket test?

as jd2 says, it might be the door. After trying the bucket, dribble water from a watering can over the door and frame (including the top) and see if it seems to get inside. You can add a little food colouring to help it show up.

Rain that reaches the frame is supposed to come out through weep holes under the sill. You will see them if you kneel down or use a mirror.

It's too wet PigletJohn, we're ripping the whole floor and underlay up now and will dry it then do bucket test!

The floor is bitumen, I found out.

I had a damp problem in a previous house (but not puddles like yours). It was a very old house so all water pipes were visible, and there was no leak. I then became aware of a slight hissing noise in the wee small hours. I called out the water company and they came and listened to my pipes using a long implement with an ear piece. There was a leak outside the front door, (in their pipe, not mine) which was the noise and, it turned out, the source of the damp. It must have been leaking for years but had got worse. I do wonder if this is an underfloor pipe burst. Have you tried putting your ear to an visible pipe work? Have you tried turning your water off inside, and then outside to see if it stops?
Having said that, there's been an awful lot of rain, here anyway.

We got the floor up and did the bucket test, water didn't come in. Worryingly it seems worst by the built in shelving and is rising. Should I be calling insurance now?

We are starting to wonder if it's the old blocked off chimney letting water in?

Have you got trace and access cover on your house insurance? I would just call them and make a claim now. You need someone to come and look and find out where this water is coming from.

WhereStarsGoBlue · 24/06/2019 14:34

Yes, we do. We had a leak detector in and he's coming back on Wednesday. It's possibly a hot water pipe behind the built in shelving so is going to be a big job. Once we know we will start the claim.

Did you find out the cause of the damp was it to do with the dpc
