Changing hospital-esque bathroom light fixture?

We have a fluorescent bathroom ceiling light, those circular ones with a translucent plastic casing. It's rather horrible and the light it emits reminds me of a hospital. I'd like to change it, my NDNs have a lovely bathroom light that replaced their old fluorescent light but a friend had done it for them so they couldn't offer any advice!
Does anyone know how I can change this for a more attractive light fixture, one that isn't plastic and fluorescent! Grin

yes.

But first look to see if there is a ceiling rose, containing about three cables. Or possibly only one. Each cable will contain about three "cores" or wires. Don't disconnect these without photographing them, and numbering each with a permanent marker pen.

One of the commonest DIY errors is to take apart a light fitting and reconnect them wrongly, with the result that the lights are permanently on, or permanently off, or constantly blow the fuse. You can't rely on the colours to help you.

YouTube. We’ve changed light fittings and it’s not that bad.

I think we have the same light by the sounds of it. I hate mine too.

I think you need special light fittings in a bathroom - as it could be a damp atmosphere?

Yes it should be a certain rating for moisture but I don’t think I’ll bother with that as the tap isn’t on long enough.
