Selling when next door about to extend

We accepted an offer on our house on Tuesday, cash buyers, over asking price- amazing! We are going into rented so anticipating a quick sale.

Trouble is, next door have come round today and asked us to sign a party wall agreement so they can do a side return extension to the kitchen, with work planned to start in July.

I REALLY don't want to lose our buyers and DH reckons this will definitely put them off. They are coming again for a viewing next Monday (the husband hasn't actually seen it yet). Do I get the estate agent to show them the plans etc, or do I wait for their solicitor to tell them, as they have planning permission so it will come up in their searches etc.

I like our neighbours and understand why they are keen for us just to sign it and get on with it, but we don't want to shoot ourselves in the foot by helping them!

Anyone got a magic solution?!

We were in this situation a few years ago although not with a party wall. I asked my buyers what they wanted to do, they wanted to object to planning which I did (was a difficult conversation with my neighbour). Their planning was declined but they resubmitted and both parties were happy. Was difficult though. However, we did tell our buyers before it appeared in searches, her felt it was the only fair thing to do.

Good to hear it got sorted @Kilash I think we should tell them too, well, get the estate agent to tell them. Surely an estate agent can spin it as a positive?!

This is a pain for you. I have to say as a buyer, I'd walk away and find another house, but I'm sure there would be people who wouldn't mind.

Yeah, this is my fear! But if they are going to walk away, I'd rather they do it early, rather than weeks into the process!

Does your house have the opportunity to do the same extension? You may find that they don't mind as it would set the bar for them to be able to get planning should they wish to extend.
When I looked at our house, the fact the neighbours were in the middle of their extension was a good thing for us!
