HELP with small bathroom, would like bath and shower

We recently moved into a new house. There is only one bathroom, which is actually two separate rooms: one room has the toilet in it and the next room has a shower and sink.

We plan to knock trough and the measurements would be something like 2m x 2.5m

I’ll add pictured if I can.

We’re trying to work out the best configuration as we really want a bath but we also want a shower and we don’t really want a shower over the bath with need for a screen or shower curtain.

We’re thinking of putting the bath in on the shorter wall where the shower is now but, annoyingly, the length is 169cm and so we may or may not be able to get a 1700 bath in (builder thinks he might be able to chip into wall slightly to fit it). The reason wall is shower is due to airing cupboard which we won’t be moving. Sink and toilet would be more or less where they are now. Shower would go in the left corner where the door to the toilet currently is (we’d keep the door to the current shower room)

I had initially wanted a free standing bath but don’t really see the point now as it will be v close the walls anyway.

I’d consider something different like a wet room or Japanese soak tub 🤷🏻‍♀️

We haven’t even chosen tiles yet but that’s another issue.

Builder is due to start work on Monday. He has some plastering and things to do for us first but we had thought we’d have ordered the bathroom suite and chosen tiles by now.

TIA 🙈

(Pics are from Rightmove so curtains etc are all previous owners’!)

@FrancesFryer I am really interested in a Japanese bath for my small bathroom. I went to Japan a few years ago and loved the baths there and it got me thinking maybe I could fit a separate bath and shower in my small bathroom after all. Can you tell us more about where you got it from, if there are any considerations for fitting it, and maybe a photo? Thanks :)

I like the Japanese bath too

But then I also want a Japanese toilet or douche / bum gun (probably the latter). I posted a thread on it a few weeks ago

Thanks everyone I’m a bit further along

Have decided bath is best going along the shorter wall across the top of the plan so the 1650 Bath is probably the best one. The cupboard is 85 wide so I could get a bath up to that width. Have found one 1600 x 8000 so could sacrifice 5 on the length and get that instead of 1650 x 800 🤔

A simple modern toilet will do but I’d like a cabinet sink if I can find one

I think we could fit a shower tray about 800 x 800 or maybe 800 x 1000 (in the corner opposite the cpd)

The only thing to think about is how you're going to get in it.

I'll post again when i get home tomorrow evening with a photo and where it came from

I’ve attached the plan. Basically when you walk in your sort of in the middle of the bathroom

I’m boing for the Carron Profile 1650 x 700 double ended bath

This sink unit

A simple toilet, a few of them are fine, but maybe this one

We’re going to try to keep the existing shower tray which is 780 x 108 cm. It is a big shower tray but seems like it will fit based on my measurements. If it seems cramped we might get a smaller shower tray or just not have a separate shower

Wrong pic

I’ve pretty much chosen everything

Sink is quite wide considering it’s a small space but think that might actually work better than picking a tiny one 🤔

I’ll sleep on it and if it makes sense in the morning I’ll place the orders!

Thanks everyone for the advice so far. Any further comments (eg if you thinking I’m cramming too much in!) would be gratefully received

I would really suggest getting a steel shower bath. They last longer and feel better under foot

We re did our bathroom and were really constrained by dimensions (London - entire width was only 1.8m ) I prefer a shower curtain if done right. See pictures in the attached link

Search for Bette Ocean.

All the best

That’s nice. I wasn’t sure about toilet next to bath but looks ok 🤔

I like the shower rail too, so that shower curtain is out of the way when you’re not using it

I completely agree about the loo, however those were our constraints.

Width of 1800 doesn't even allow for a standard 700 bath 600 sink and 600 loo. And putting the loo and sink along the other wall would have taken up all the space in our bathroom.

However it's a great place to sit when bathing the kids!

As for the shower curtain it is great for swinging it out of the way but getting it around the 90 degree bend does take more partience. You can get them here.

Plan looks great! I'd go for a loo that is either wall hung, or fits fully to the wall rather than have a small gap behind.

I'd also get a shower tray that curves - it'll give you a bit more floor space and you're only sacrificing a tiny bit of shower corner that you can't get into anyway.

FloatingthroughSpace · 02/06/2019 10:12

I would swap your loo and basin as I think trying to get on the loo will feel 'blocked' by the basin and shower tray....

AliceRR · 02/06/2019 10:37

Yes swapping toilet and sink might be an idea

Also now thinking a 900 wide sink is too wide. The 600 would be quite narrow but I like that sink and I think we can have decent sized one based on the plan
