How to strip wallpaper with many layers of paint off?

We scored it, used concentrated wallpaper removal solution and let soak for 15 mins, still wouldn't budge, steamer is helping a bit but it's so slow and painful!!

Any tips?

I stripped painted wallpaper last week; I feel your pain. I found the best way was to take off the top painted layer with a scraper then use the steamer on what's left. It's a slow, messy job. Good luck!

When you say you scored it, how much did you score it? I have seen a scorer which has three spiked wheels, looks like it might do that part of the job well.

It's a thankless task, you have my sympathy. I use a really old scraper, the edge is much sharper so it gets under the paper. You might find it easier to peel off the top layer first if you can get under an edge.

After the initial 15 min soaking, keep on soaking it plus wet it just before you scrape. I'd be careful with the steam stripper ours took off quite a bit of old plaster too especially around door frames where the paper layers/paint were thick.

@Sirrah yes we have that x

Find a seam if you can, and get underneath it with a wide scraper. Steam is the only way, there's no shortcut. Make sure the surface is properly broken by scoring and give the paper chance to absorb the moisture. Try not to gouge the wall underneath or you'll have a lot of filling to do as well.

We had a house with woodchip that had been painted many times. No easy way I'm afraid. We tended to strip the paint with a scraper and then use a steamer for the paper itself. Took two of us two full days to strip a small double bedroom which was particularly bad with more coats of paint than the other rooms. There's a special place in hell for people who put on woodchip and then paint it.
