Kitchen/Diner Layout Critique

Please have a look at my draft kitchen/diner layout (Version 50001020) and be brutal (but not too brutal Wink ).

Context, the utility to east of the dining room houses a large American style fridge freezer as well as a second sink, second dishwasher and washer and dryer.

This layout leave the structure of the current room untouched and I don't want to get involved in too much additional building work as I really love the space.

PS Drawing is crap I know. I am clearly not a natural draughtswoman

Crap. Loaded upside down sigh

Can't be arsed to try load it again as I need to go cook dinner. Will have another stab at it later.

Have had some wine and can't figure out your upsidedown plan, but not having the FF in the kitchen would drive me mad.

PicpouldePoulet · 31/05/2019 21:25

Too dark and blurry to see much, but ditto the PP. Fridge freezer placed in the utility would drive ne mad too.

Could not cope with upside down picture

Can't see that clearly enough on my phone, although it's at least the right way up. I don't like the dining table up against the island(?) like that.

EastCoastDamsel · 01/06/2019 06:53

Thanks all. DH and I have had a chat last night and instead of the dresser we are going to put our existing Fridge freezer and a large larder unit instead. Bringing the fridge into the kitchen/diner and removing the need for a

I will try redraw it all more clearly at some point today. (Maybe with graph paper or even online)

I can make it out. I think it looks good. Only thing is I'm not sure about the position of the dining table in relation to adding chairs etc - you need quite a large amount of clearance for them to push in and out etc.
Might get round that by having a bench on one side but don't know what you'd do with the other edges if you kept it in that position?

EastCoastDamsel · 01/06/2019 08:50

I think I might have the dining table made up separately as I'm not entirely happy with it there either.

I have reworked the design a bit to provide seating for four around the island (slight overhang) to the bottom and right. Moved the dining room table. Scrapped the Welsh dresser and replaced with fridge freezer and larder unit.

Island is 3m x 1.2m

Dining table 2m x 1.2m

(Also drawn on graph paper to make it a little clearer.)

Your plans look sensible and well thought out.

Ideally you want 1.2m around a dining table for circulation when people are sitting on the chairs. The overhang on an island should be 30cm minimum if anyone is going to sit at it to eat comfortably.

Bear in mind that with an overhang it will be trickier to open the island units. If it's only for occasional use, maybe have an overhang only on the dining room end for just a couple of barstools.

wowfudge · 02/06/2019 21:44

D'oh - have just realised where your seating is round the island!

myrtleWilson · 02/06/2019 22:00

I'm being exceptionally dense here but where is the island?

EastCoastDamsel · 02/06/2019 22:08

Thank you @wowfudge. Currently the overhang is only 200mm, so I might need to adjust that. Thanks also for the details regarding the dining room table circulation space. I may have to settle for a slightly smaller table and move it a bit within the room.

@myrtleWilson the island is the sellotape graph paper join.

The kitchen forms part of a larger open plan space not included in the diagram

We don't have as much space around our dining table, but it's not used every day so is less of an issue. When it's fully extended we move a couple of bits of furniture to make things more comfortable.
