Kitchen Island extraction options. Statement Hood or integrated into hob. Advice desperately needed.

I am getting a new kitchen (Yay!) in a couple of months and we are finalising the plans currently. The hob will be in the island and as we have very high ceilings (5.2m) and open plan, I do not want to install a standard island extractor hood as it will dominate and look ugly.

What are my options? Have any of you installed a statement recirculating hood like the Elica Pearl or a hob with an integrated extractor like Nikolai Tesla Ducting Integrated Extraction

What are your experiences?

I got a custom extractor from Westin. They have some more interesting designs and can custom make the chimney part to the right height. Also had exterior motor to make it quieter but still powerful.
Too many reviews of the elica pearl type being rubbish for me. Westin also do flush to ceiling extractors but I guess you'd have to chat to them about how well they work in v high ceilings.

We just went without an extractor in the end. Kitchen has been in for 3 years, and I haven't missed it at all - they always seemed pretty useless TBH.

One of the design appointments we went to, the guy said recirculating hoods are useless. So if you can't extract out don't bother (you will need some sort of extraction for building reg purposes though but a simple one like those used in the bathroom will suffice). My husband who always knows better because he is a chef disagrees though and says we are having one no matter what 🙄

I've used my current extractor three times in 9 years so I'm going for a cheap but striking one as I don't expect to ever use it. I didn't want one built into the hob as it seems like just another thing to go wrong, potentially taking out the whole hob in the process, and even worse, a crumb trap.

5.2 mtrs you will need something bespoke from the ceiling due to legth or get a ceiling aextractor and have something buit lower to house it and make it look part of the room/feature

Thanks. Westin says that as long as the extractor is at the highest point in the ceiling there is no maximum height for effectiveness. So that may be a good (and discreet) option.

i deal with westin - did they not mention approx height should be 1500/2000mm above the hob?

Have you looked at Bora hobs (integral extractor)? We're planning to have this one in our kitchen extension
