Kitchen tiling ideas

I’m seriously stuck for inspiration.

Replacing my skanky old kitchen for a cheapy ikea verdinge in grey (as per attached pic) this week as an interim measure whilst I earn enough money to build an extension. The kitchen is tiny - one of those standard 1930s semi-detached kitchen at the back jobs.

I’m going to tile the floor and above the work surfaces but I have no inspiration for how this should look. I want to get the best out of pretty cheap units, but obviously don’t want to spend loads as it’ll be gone when the extension is built. On the plus side though, I don’t have to worry about a trendy look getting dated in the future.

Any ideas?

Do you have to tile? Just have worktops with upstands, a splash back behind your hob and paint the rest.

Seconding Alexa

I dislike tiles and loathe the grouting so in my new kitchen I have upstands to the worktops and a glass splashback over the hob.

The walls were painted with some trade-quality white emulsion and honestly it does simply wipe clean, I imagined having to repaint often but just over two years on and it's fine.

I am a fairly keen cook and baker, so I do thoroughly use my kitchen and stuff has got splattered, honest.

Yes better than tile I’d continue the worksurface up the wall to the wall units, and up the wall behind the hood to the ceiling (you might get a join but a clever installer can minimise that). It looks sleek and easy to clean.

I had literally never even thought I could not have tiles between the worktops and the cupboards. My mind is blown. Off to google upstands

Ikea do a upstand in stainless steel or brushed gold that £35 per piece.

Do you mind me asking how much that Ikea kitchen will cost to supply and fit?
We're in a similar situation and probably going to just replace the doors on or skanky small kitchen, but keen to know how much would be if we did go down the Ikea route

The kitchen was around £2500 but that’s with a new oven, hob and extractor. Fitting is going to be £££ but that’s because the kitchen is so manky that it needs replastering, a new ceiling, new electrics etc.

I'm currently re-doing my kitchen and am having an acrylic splashback panel about 3m long behind the range and along that counter. It worked out a bit less expensive than tiles and the tiler.
