DIY kitchens planning and design process

Can anyone help me with the DIY kitchens design process please? I have the paper planning sheets and have also had a little go with the online tool as well, but I have a few questions.

I’m worried about my measuring up of the kitchen, although I have measured it up accurately in mm as best I can, what happens for example when we take the old tiles off and now the measurements are different? How can I get a neat row of cabinets and appliances without there being a gap at the end (I would obviously make sure that the row isn’t too big for the gap but what happens if it’s too small?) End panels? Do they come in certain sizes or are they made to fit by the fitter somehow?

Do we plan and design the kitchen and then organise a fitter, or do we book a fitter and would they help us with the designing/ordering process. (For which I would of course happily pay them to do!)

Lastly, we would like to retain the current floor tiles we have in there, as we suspect there may be asbestos tile underneath them and it would be serious £££ to get them removed. We did find a stash of spare tiles behind the kick boards of the current kitchen so would potentially use these to patch up any gaps, but does this sound a realistic prospect?

Any help is gratefully received, and sorry if this sounds clueless. I am trying to get DH to help me but he is a little distracted by the new allotment! Thank you.

Panels can be cut to size.

We got our kitchen from DIY and I just went up there for a day to get help. Glad I did as we ended up getting some bespoke elements and other bits ‘could be done’ but from being an amateur in front of the computer, yo wouldn’t now that.

Just measure everything extremely carefully and DH will need to forget the allotment for an hour to make sure you definitely get it right.
