Bath draining constantly

Hi we have a freestanding bath with push down plug in the middle - in hindsight a bad choice with a toddler Grin. I'd noticed the bath slowly draining when bathing my toddler but assumed he'd sat on the plug under his bath mat. However tonight I just couldn't get the bath to actually fill more than about 2 inches. I unscrewed the plug and tried to tighten but to no avail I have a vague recollection of there being a thin black rubber circle on the plug but it's not there now. To save my poor toddler another disappointing bath does anyone have idea what I need to do to stop this happening? Photo attached- many thanks

I had a similar problem occur although I have a different plug to you, I unclogged the plug one day as there seemed to be hair stuck down the drain that you couldn't notice from just looking at it as it was beyond the drain and after that it's been absolutely fine. I have no idea how it was causing it to drain the bath but that's the only explanation I have for it..

The washer has come off the plug.
You should be able to buy a new one if you take the plug to a plumbers' merchants or similar.

The washer being the black rubber bit that you have correctly noticed has come off. Could it have gone down the plug hole or dropped somewhere in the bathroom?

Ah ha brilliant thank you so much I was having a sleep deprived fog there (toddler induced!) a washer that's the name I was looking for. I use a drain weasel for the hair Envyso I'm sure the drain itself is clean but I haven't noticed the washer when I have cleaned it. I shall pop to b and q or wilko tomorrow no more 2 inches baths!! Thank you both ThanksGinCake

I think it's an O-ring, not a washer. I doubt a hardware store will match it.

If you know the make of the waste fitting that may help.

If you can't identify it, you can buy a box of 1,000 assorted "O" rings to try to find one that fits, or you could send a photo to someone like Lunns who may recognise it.

Measure it as precisely as you possibly can.

p.s.

until fixed, you can use a universal plug. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Sink-Bath-Home-CROYDEX-SELF-PARKING-SINK-BASIN-REPLACEMENT-PLUG/283338221817?hash=item41f84628f9:m:mrwtaF8OdbCo4VQDcT7-dkw
Wilko might have them.

Ordinary plugs often won't fit pop-up or clacker wastes.

Thanks @PigletJohn I'll have a look at the universal one till we track it down! No luck at Wilko I didn't dare brave b and q with it being a bank holiday!!! Thanks again
