Best budget kitchen

We're about to rip out a horrible greasy old B&Q kitchen from the house we've just bought.

The layout of the kitchen diner is problematic (see pic) - originally we planned to remove the wall between kitchen / diner but structural, cost and time issues have made that unlikely for the moment. So we are going ahead with keeping the wall - we are instructing the electrician for a rewire next week.

Given that we might tire of the layout and (hopefully!) be able to afford to replace the conservatory with an extension in 3-5 years, we are loathe to spend a lot on a fitted kitchen now. Realistically our budget is £1000 so I know we are right at the bottom end / used market for cabinets anyway.

How would you get a really budget kitchen together for this budget?

Can a worktop be changed later ? My friend has an existing kitchen and just changed the worktop recently. If we don't have to make this decision now it would make it a lot easier

Just had another thought. I have a kitchen island too and that is totally freestanding - apart from the fact that the worktop is fixed on.

If I had a few strong men available (ha ha) they could lift the whole thing and move it.

Having solid backs the DIY kitchen cabinets are very rigid

Yes the worktop can be changed later if its OK. New doors/drawers and even new drawer boxes if any are broken it's just a few screws. Or you can improve the interior fittings, b&q sell everything separately and their units are a standard size.

We got kitchen doors from:

www.kitchenandbedroomdoors.co.uk

For the internal fittings we went to:

www.kitchenfittingsdirect.com

Agree that if carcasses are sound it seems nuts to change them. got enough to do as it is ! (Rewire etc)

I measured the cupboards yesterday and can def replace the wall cupboards with 71cm high doors.
But the base cabinet doors are 56cm high - can't see any on B&Q of that height? Is that unusual?

Are your base cabinets on legs? That seems very low for base cabinets.
I've only seen that height of cabinet as a wall unit and not every company stocks/makes them.

Also, do your base cabinets have a drawer above them? If so, you would need something like this:

www.diy.com/departments/kitchen/kitchen-cabinets/cabinet-door-drawer-packs/DIY857672.cat

The door height would then be 557 mm.

Thanks @SolitudeIsHighlyOverrated I noted the size down but forgot to write that there were drawers too - the drawer line range is what I need!
Really appreciate everyone's help. I'm a bit overwhelmed with the renovation (first timer - owned a newish build before needing nothing doing). Was unprepared for how many decisions I would need to make so quickly....
