Surveys - can you get a roof survey only?

I am purchasing a late 1960s purpose built maisonette. There is a flat on the ground floor and the property I am buying is on the first and second floors with loft access.

I am satisfied with the condition of the flat I am buying and that a full structural survey is not required.

Is it possible to just have a survey of the roof? This is the only thing I would like reassurance on.

I should add, that I will have the freehold for the flat, and though it is an unusual set up, full responsibility for the roof.

I viewed a property, spotted a chimney problem, got surveyor to look solely at that, cause I knew if I couldn't negotiate the cost of remedying it, I wasn't going to buy.
I then had surveyor return to do full survey.

So yes, it's possible.
Or it was then, I suspect they might make you sign a contract nowadays saying that you accepted the lack of liability the surveyor might have towards you.

But, if it's possible, is it a good idea?
The job of a surveyor is to use their knowledge to spot issues which you wouldn't have seen. Compared to the value of the property, it's a minor cost, but could save you so much.

Thanks Evidencebased.

I have 2 different friends who are giving me advice. Both very experienced in buying and selling property and whose opinions I trust (and who are looking out for my interests). Both say that they wouldn't do a full structural survey on the property due to its age and general condition (one of these visited the property with me and poked and prodded in all the corners). My understanding is that a homebuyers survey would probably be less thorough than even my friend's inspection of the property, so it seems pointless to instruct one of those.

The roof, which looks fine from the outside and from a quick check in the attic, is the only thing I would like a professional to look at.

Was wondering if there are many out there who forgo the survey.
