Where to Live in Nottingham?

Hi all, really looking forward to chatting with you!

I had a quick question for those of you who know or live in Nottingham. My partner and I are looking to move into Nottinghamshire and have the following dream wish list for our soon-to-be home:

  • Small-ish town/village (my partner is from Stone and we LOVE the small rural village vibe)
  • Good schools (ideally forest school) and local amenities (parks, access to grocery stores and hospital)
  • Not too far from City-Centre
  • On some form of bus route? I drive so this one isn't essential
  • Safe

We've been suggested the following - Gedling, Carlton, Ripley, Long Eaton, Ruddington, Wollaton, but none of them seem to have much in the way of available houses so if you think you know somewhere we should be looking please let us know! Thanks so much! Flowers

West Bridgford is possibly the best area in Notts for schools & community. I love it there!

Beds and budget?

The good villages within a sensible drive of the city centre are pretty hot to try to buy in :/

Scrap Carlton from your list btw. The school you’ll be thinking of is Carlton Le willows - you want Burton Joyce rather than Carlton. Prices in BJ are rocketing and demand is high!

Also suggest:

Radcliffe on Trent
Keyworth
Wilford village
And there is of course... West Bridgford

My pick, as you’ve already mentioned, would be Ruddington. If you’d rent before buying, a lot of new builds are due in Rudd in the near future. There’s loads of new builds near Edwalton, but I’m not sure there’s any amenities.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! As for what beds/budget, we're trying to go for around 4 beds, or three with an office/2 reception rooms, and budget is quite flexible depending on the house. I don't mind a doer-upper!

Burton Joyce has a rural feel whilst still being close to city centre. Plumtree is nice.

We see in Wilford (West Bridgford too expensive) and we like it a lot. We were looking for city /amenities rather than a village though. I would look at Ruddington, it ha a good park and village centre.

The new homes in Edwalton are lovely but there's no real centre to the development that I can see although an Aldi and primary school are planned.

If you are going to commute into the centre look at the tram/Park and ride routes.

West Bridgford
Mapperley
Beeston
Gamston

Burton Joyce, Lambley, papplewick/linby, maybe Southwell if you don't mind being a bit further out? Cropwell Bishop? Bestwood Village?

lipslovelylips · 21/05/2019 06:18

And look at Gedling village rather than Gedling.

lipslovelylips · 21/05/2019 06:21

Attenborough?

lipslovelylips · 21/05/2019 06:24

You could also look at Lowdham.

ilovetvandchocolates · 21/05/2019 06:25

Cotgrave, Bingham, both excellent schools. Langar, Harby, Hose, more rural but still close enough to everything. I agree with Cropwell Bishop, that's between Langar and Cotgrave. Also Cropwell Butler.

Beeston is nice. Good transport links into city centre. I live in Lenton and I love it. Even though it's all students.
