Shall I buy this house?

Name changed as I've sought opinions in real life and don't want to be linked to previous posts.

Anyway, this is the house:

I think it's okay. I don't have much of an imagination so struggling to think what I'd do with it.

You need to put a clicky link in

CanadianJohn · 18/05/2019 14:27

Clicky link (I hope) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-80172998.html

Seems very tiny to me.

Pipandmum · 18/05/2019 14:32

I wouldn’t. But what you want may be totally different from what I want. I don’t like this style and I really hate the windows. But you’d probably hate my house (1880s double fronted Victorian).

titchy · 18/05/2019 14:40

Without knowing your situation it's a bit difficult to advise.... do you need 3 beds? Do you need to live there? Is that your max budget? Etc etc

Sirrah · 18/05/2019 14:46

The bathroom is minute! How would you turn the bath taps on without getting into the bath first?

Bluntness100 · 18/05/2019 14:49

Hard to advise. If you like it then buy it.

sorenipples · 18/05/2019 14:50

Initial reaction is I wouldn't, but then I wouldn't have bought my first house by the same reasoning. You buy the best you can afford, considering your needs (space, location, work required ).

I am put off by the lack of space for a table to eat at, and that the front room is narrow and a corridor. It may be that all houses in your budget have similar (or worse) problems.

UnderTheSeaWithMe · 18/05/2019 15:06

It looks very crammed. It's nicely decorated. It's a starter home.

Think long term - how many in your family and will you be able to afford to move if/when it grows? Ask yourself before you buy: if you owned it and needed to sell it, how easily would it sell? Would you be able to sell for the same price or more than you're buying it for? Be honest with yourself.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/05/2019 15:23

I just had a look in chessington for you and that is the best house under £325. The one at 299 looks bigger but is horrific - horrible greenhouse (NOT a conservatory) Shock

Is that your maximum budget? Do you have to live there?

floraloctopus · 18/05/2019 15:24

No, it's incredibly cramped. The kitchen and living room are far too small.

Gatekeeper · 18/05/2019 15:28

Feels oppressive..bathroom is tiny and I imagine bumping my arse on the sink trying to move around. No room for dining table and no hallway

Youmadorwhat · 18/05/2019 15:38

To be honest I know it’s surrey by that is stupid money for an awful house imo, it needs a complete overhaul and is very cramped 😮 could you try in another area? Does it have to be chessington?

bebeboeuf · 18/05/2019 15:38

As a 2 bed project then it might be ok, but one of the bedrooms needs changing into a bathroom and the downstairs bathroom needs changing to just a toilet with a store cupard.

No room for proper dining and no where to hand coats and put shoes when coming in from the front.
No where to put a prom if you had little ones.
All in all a very impractical house (said by someone who chooses character of practicality any day)

keepingbees · 18/05/2019 15:45

What's your opinion on it op? How did you feel when you viewed it?

LondonHousingAdventure · 18/05/2019 16:29

Sorry, a few more details would have helped, wouldn't they?

This is unfortunately top of the budget.

We are looking for a 2-3 bed house in South-ish London or in Surrey. Doesn't have to be Chessington. We lost a £300k 2 bed in Surbiton last year and I'm not quite over it.

Need links to central London and St Helier hospital for work. Currently renting in the Bushy Park area mysterious

I don't like the house. I don't like anything in our budget, which is why I am looking for outside opinions to help me be sensible/objective.

We did actually see the 299 house as well - it's worse in reality than the photos show.

Oh the DC situation - none yet, though not through a lack of trying!

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/05/2019 16:34

Are there cheaper areas which are do'able where you might get more space for your budget?

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/05/2019 16:38

What's your max budget?

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-80965451.html

This looks nice.

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/05/2019 16:40

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71629825.html

This?

LondonHousingAdventure · 18/05/2019 16:40

NicoAndTheNiners

St Helier I suppose, although it's a bit of a wasteland there. We've seen a few houses there as well, but most things are of this kind of calibre.

We've looked at Sutton, Kenley, Croydon, Redhill so far. This area is 15 minutes by bus to Surbiton, so I thought it would be worth a look.

Does anyone know of any other places we could look?

OP posts:
LondonHousingAdventure · 18/05/2019 16:42

NicoAndTheNiners

Budget is £325k.

One of your links is for over 60s, I've still got a few decades to go before I'm eligible Grin

I like that, but presumably it's leasehold? DP refuses to consider anything other than freehold.

There's a few in Epsom / Tadworth worth looking at.
