Bathroom recommendations

We're looking to remodel our bathroom/toilet and would like some recommendations of where to go for the suite etc. and good people to install. We currently have a separate loo to our bathroom and want to knock down the wall so it's all together. We're in the Nottingham area so if anyone has a good builder/plumber please tell us!

We did B&Q/Screw Fix for our last bathroom and that was ok, but I'm wondering if I'm missing out on any hidden gems!!

some WCs that are budget or unknown imported brands have a poor flush.

I have more trust in an established UK brand like Twyfords or Armitage. I got a very good Twyfords from QSsupplies, I didn't realise they did sanitaryware until I searched for the particular model that fitted my needs (soil pipe went down through a concrete floor, which is rare in modern designs) and found they had the best price.

You can search the manufacturers' websites or brochures first, as there are wide ranges. Any builders or plumbers merchant can order out of the book but is likely to charge retail list price.

Don't buy a square bog unless you have a square arse. Replacement seats will cost a fortune.

Don't get a WC or shower mixer anything else that is built into the wall and tiled over. You will be sad when the wall has to be broken out to repair it. Round-knob Aqualisas are made so they can be dismantled from the front.

Look for Bristan taps and Aqualisa showers. Their round-knob mixers are the best. Plumbworld have a few but look around for prices. Both these makes have good spares availability and are very suitable for UK plumbing.

If you buy a white suite it can be mix and match suppliers. For example Carronite baths are extra-thick and strong.

Don't get pop-up wastes. They will leak. Nothing is as reliable as a plug, but clicker wastes are not bad.
