Does your end panel go all the way to the floor?

Hi

I’m just about to have the tall end panel fitted on the side of a fridge that is at the end of a run of tall cabinets. The simplest solution is to have the panel touch the floor, but the only way I can incorporate a curved corner post (that I have bought) is to have the end panel sit in line with the bottom of the unit, and then have a plinth filling in the gap underneath along the front and side of the units(recessed). Would that look silly? Any comments or photos would help in my decision. Thanks

Not sure I follow. Do you need the corner post?

Our end panel runs to the floor - it’s against a larder cupboard

RaptorWhiskers · 17/05/2019 17:32

Not sure what you mean or what this corner post is like. But imo a plinth at the side would look silly.

Our end panel is against the floor and held in place by 2 L brackets (same configuration as yours OP- big fridge freezer at the end of tall cabinet run). We have skirting terminating at the panel.

It would look weird not to have it touching the floor.

Thanks for your replies. Basically I bought a tall radius feature end that is a curved post that you attach along the front side of your end panel to give it a nice finish (it wasn’t cheep 🤦‍♀️). Annoyingly it is about 3cm too short to run from the floor to the edge of the cornice so the only solution I can think of is to have it (and the end panel) terminate at the bottom of the cabinet. I guess I’m trying to find a solution rather than waste it. It seem to fit as hoped on my last kitchen but I think this time the builder has set the units a little taller. It’s similar to the one in this picture (but for a tall cabinet)

Ooh ar, nudge nudge wink wink.

RaptorWhiskers · 17/05/2019 17:44

I’d just chuck out the too-short corner post you already have and get one that’s the correct height to reach the floor.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2019 17:50

Can you buy the shrt s possible length of the corner post thing and cut the "missing" 3cm off it to lengthen the one you have?

hiddenmnetter · 17/05/2019 18:06

I’d just chuck out the too-short corner post you already have and get one that’s the correct height to reach the floor.

That- it’ll cost less than £100 to get a replacement part and it might take a builder charging you anything from £200-£300/Day to manufacture something. Just buy one that fits (or chuck the idea out).

beckypv · 17/05/2019 18:36

Thanks. The post only comes in that height so there is no option to get a longer one. It’s seems the consensus is to write it off and just use the end panel as normal to frame the units, rather than try and fudge it. To add to the complication, this is the second post we ordered as the fitters incorrectly chopped up the first one so the builder agreed to pay for a new one (£300) so it is going to be a sucker punch to both of us not to use it..... anyway, I come to the end of our build there have been a few things I have bought/miss ordered that we haven’t been able to use. I just need to suck it up and move on! Thanks for helping me decide

Shorten all the units and build in a bulkhead above them?

Ljhr · 17/05/2019 19:52

Don’t write it off yet! Can’t your kitchen fitter come up with a solution? Ours have been great overcoming some things that weren’t quite right. We also have a diy kitchen.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2019 20:29

as the fitters incorrectly chopped up the first one

What did they do with the bits?

Soontobe60 · 17/05/2019 20:36

When our kitchen was finished, we took all the excess parts back to where we bought it and got a refund. Almost £400!

Ljhr · 17/05/2019 21:36

That’s true if it’s not a bespoke colour you can return

pengymum · 17/05/2019 21:42

Use a bit that was chopped off by mistake to fill in the gap? At top so not as noticeable?

PigletJohn · 17/05/2019 22:10

If it's 3cm too short to reach the cornice, just fill it in with something matching. At the top it will be out of eye level. Just don't point a spotlight at it or point it out.

PigletJohn · 17/05/2019 22:12

And ask the supplier for a pot of touch up paint, and what the RAL number is.

bebeboeuf · 18/05/2019 11:56

Why has the builder needed to set the units so high off the ground? Will the plinths still fit?
