Cheap indoor table to use outside (pic include)

I'm looking for some expert advice, we've just had some decking built and won't be able to get any decent outdoor furniture for a while, I have a cheap indoor table, plywood top and metal legs, similar to the one pictured, do you think there's anything I could cover it with or do it it that would make it suitable for outside?

If so would it look ok for s bit til we can afford something better?

I've attached a picture to get an idea of the materials and looks

Thanks

The wood sections will quickly get damaged while the metal sections will start to rust, potentially damaging your new decking. Unless you keep it inside and move it out when you want to use it?

Look on FB marketplace, you’ll be able to get something secondhand very cheaply.

In fact, sell the indoor set and use the money to buy something secondhand.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately even something cheap is out of our price range at the minute, and I bought the table about 5 years ago for £10 so definitely won't make my millions selling that

I understand it will deteriorate quickly which is why I was asking if anyone knew of anything I could treat it with or paint it with etc that would keep it alright outside

Do you have a door out to the decking? If so just keep it indoors and move it out when you need it. Even if you cover it with plastic I don't think it'll last long left out 24/7

Best thing to cover it with is a tarpaulin I think.

ChariotsofFish · 18/05/2019 06:35

You’ll be able to sell that table for ten pounds and buy something else for ten pounds.

whistl · 18/05/2019 06:57

No there isn't. You need to protect it from the elements. A thick coat of paint would sort of help prolong it for a little while. Tarpaulin would be better. But nothing will really work.
Either do without or move it outside only when you are about to use it or cover it with tarpaulin and make sure it doesn't sit in a puddle, but even that won't protect it for long.

Try something like this on the table top and seats:

There are many other designs available. Then a coat of Hammerite metal paint on the frames

QOD · 18/05/2019 09:20

I used varnish on a side table and it lasted a good few years. And yes to hammerite metal paint on the legs etc
But that’ll cost you at least £10 anyway
If you’re on Facebook, post asking if anyone has any unwanted garden furniture for free or swap
I’ve got rid of several garden sets over the years by giving them away - when I’ve updated.
I’d not be offended to see a post asking

MyThirdBestWig · 18/05/2019 09:33

Exactly, you could easily spend £10 on hammerite or varnish (buy exterior varnish if you do this) or a tarp. Or £30 if you bought all 3. I wouldn't spend anything on it.

People will be throwing away their old garden sets and replacing at this time of year. Second hand is the way to go. You may cringe but we've picked up decent stuff from the sale area at the dump before for about £3.
