Selling a house part-furnished

We're about to put our house on the market. The thing is we've already moved out - but not completely (living in a smaller rented place now so don't need all the furniture)
I wonder whether to completely clear it by putting things in storage? Or to keep a semblance of a lived in feel even though there aren't quite enough beds or sofas.
Any advice appreciated!

Depends on who comes to view. Some people can't imagine how to use a space without seeing furniture in.

Other thing to think about is that some people might see an empty house as a reason to offer low as they might presume the vender needs to sell quickly

I think a few items of furniture are useful to give an indication of how big a room is.

For photos you definitely want furniture in. It's hard to imagine how big the rooms are without it. Alternatively some estate agents offer to put virtual furniture in your pics.

I flip houses and I always furnish them, put blinds up, towels in the bathroom and artwork up and accessories (pretty plates, candlesticks etc). I’m not fooling anyone that someone actually lives there but it gives a good idea of how furniture fits. Plus it does fool people into thinking that they could live in this idealised everything white and clean house! Ha we all know reality is something else.
So if the furniture is decent and in can look like a room as opposed to ‘can’t be bothered to remove this one lonely chair’, then I’d go to the effort to make it look homely. I’d concentrate on the living room and master and not worry about the rest.

Interesting thanks so much everyone. Alas we took our best furniture to the rental so it's our average furniture left. But I'm sure if we clean and plump and polish it will look ok.
One more question - do you think it's worth painting the hallway? At the moment it's white wallpaper and not in bad nick. But a bit scuffed.

Would you take the wallpaper off? I wouldn’t paint over scuffs. I also think first impressions count so make sure your approach is attractive and the hall as well. It’s the first internal impression of the house. You want people to think it’s looked after.

Make sure furniture is noted in the sale. My friend left fitted wardrobes - as you do - and a few bits that matched, dresser +table and chair. New owners skipped the lot - including ripped out wardrobes - and billed her for the skip!!
