New boiler quote

Littleforestcat · 10/05/2019 14:46

So our boiler has finally died and we need to get it replaced ASAP. Of the three companies I've tried so far, only one has responded quickly, quoted and can fit the work in early next week but I'm nervous about not having any other quotes to compare to. Wwyd? I don't feel we've much choice. Quote is £2050 for Worcester or £1600 for a cheaper model. Extra £265 for a radiator flush. Sound reasonable?

Our Worcester we've just had put in was 2k, chemical flush was £400 so sounds reasonable.

Littleforestcat · 10/05/2019 14:59

Thanks, that's really helpful to know! Torn between just getting it booked in because we absolutely need a working boiler and shopping around because it's such a big purchase.

The most you'll save is maybe £50 so unless that's worth no boiler for longer then I'd go with that. Ask if it comes with guarantees and warranties (it should). Was this heating engineer recommended?

stanski · 10/05/2019 15:19

That sounds like a fair price to be honest.

Mosaic123 · 10/05/2019 15:51

Do have the flush. It made our ancient rads work much better when we had a new boiler.

Hecateh · 10/05/2019 16:49

That's not a bad price. BG would be at least twice that I suspect

Littleforestcat · 10/05/2019 17:04

Thanks all, that's made my mind up. Not personally recommended but I've seen their van a couple of times on the estate and so far they've been very helpful and responsive. Sounds like the flush is worth it too.

IS that for installation/ new flue and the new drain from the condenser ?

Littleforestcat · 10/05/2019 17:18

Quote says with standard flue kit and condense discharge will be terminated to external waste supply.

Go for a Vaillant. Engineers prefer them.

UCOinanOCG · 10/05/2019 18:29

British Gas did ours about this time last year when out old one packed in. We chose a top of the range Vaillant boiler as we have a big house and needed a really powerful one, plus a flush and a full Hive system for a 2-zoned house. Cost £3600 which we thought was reasonable. They did a fantastic job and their aftercare has been brilliant. The boiler appeared to stop working one weekend and an engineer was out within hours. I think it was an issue with pressure which was fixed quickly. We have just had it serviced and the chap that came out was great - polite, worked quickly and helpful. I honestly could not fault BG at all.

pikapikachu · 10/05/2019 19:25

Just had a Worcester Bosch and Hive thermostat put in by BG for £2800 including flush. It's a 4 bed house so needed a big boiler

Littleforestcat · 10/05/2019 19:49

Interesting that you say that @clarrylove. The cheaper option is a heatline capriz which I think is a Vaillant.

£2455 here for a Vaillant, radiator flush and a 2-day job

HotGingerPudding2 · 10/05/2019 21:02

I’m in the process of getting quotes to replace our boiler and vented hot water cylinder with a new system boiler and unvented hot water cylinder. Of the teo quotes so far BG is winning on price surprisingly but only give a 5 year warranty. Assured Worcester Bosch installers usually give 7-10 years warranty. Another consideration is speed of response to maintenance issues when dealing with small companies.

I will get another couple of quotes to compare as thankfully our current set up is still working!

HotGingerPudding2 · 10/05/2019 21:04

Both quotes include a power flush and WB filter as the warranty is conditional on these.

Earslaps · 10/05/2019 22:50

We had a Worcester Bosch put in a couple of years ago, full flush, large capacity boiler and five year warranty. Was about £2300 I think.

Three different engineers recommended Worcester over Vaillant.

Vinorosso74 · 10/05/2019 22:54

Our new Vaillant, system flush, tweaks to the exhaust and new pipe for condenser was £2500. Worcester Bosch was a teeny bit cheaper but the guy who installed it said more engineers in our area can service Vaillants and the parts are easier sources. He did give us some cheaper makes which are ok but I can't remember names.

riverislands · 10/05/2019 22:57

I've had both and prefer Worcester.

Melonise · 10/05/2019 23:04

British Gas installed a Worcester to replace my 20 yr old combi a couple of weeks ago. Done for £2900 which included putting in the condenser pipe through the wall to the bathroom as there wasn't one previously. Also means I can spread the payments (but pay the balance anytime in next 2 years interest free). They arrived at 8am and were done by 2.30. 2 engineers and an electrician. Really tidy job.

I know you're probably set on your tradesmen but if you end up with a BG quote, leave it a few weeks and they'll email you to say they'll give you £200 off the quote. Wink

Melonise · 10/05/2019 23:06

Oh also meant to say - the guy that came out to do the quote said engineers like Vaillant as they're so easy to work on but "would choose a worcester for their granny".

MarieG10 · 11/05/2019 13:47

Neighbour had one done. Was a fairly straightforward swop which was cost of the Worcester which I think was circa £1200 plus £400 fitting. Was done in a day. I think if you need extra like condensing drains it will mount and it may mean you need someone to fit the drain access

TiddleTaddleTat · 11/05/2019 14:01

Just had a quote to replace old water tank system with a combi (ideal vogue boiler, 12yr guarantee) also to move the boiler up a floor, relocate a radiator to the other side of the room, and replace 4 rads. Power flush too. £3100 all in. Up north.

MarieG10 · 11/05/2019 16:30

Tiddle...sounds a decent fair price

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 11/05/2019 16:52

Amazing price !
