If you’ve got higher than average ceilings do you have taller than normal kitchen units?

Yes.

Remember to get extra shelves in them though, not, as Magnet tried to convince me, [ hmm] just taller gaps between shelf an cupboard roof

Make sure you have easy access to a ladder nearby. How about building a tall cupboard into the kitchen to house one?

Even an ordinary ceiling at about 2400mm will take 900mm wall units. You can have extra boxes above. Top-hinged doors are convenient if the ceiling is about 3000mm, but you will need steps to get to them. They need extra wall fixings to take the weight. Cabinet hanging rail is very strong and convenient. You can put extractor duct up there if your cooker is not on an outside wall.

If your ceilings are higher than 3000mm they are out of reach, really, and just need boxing in to prevent grime accumulating. Anything you put up there will be forgotten until the house clearance agents throw it away.

I've got 3.5m tall ceilings and yes we have taller units. It all looks in proportion to the overall room size.

I agree with extra shelves. First of all you won't get sagging shelves by placing too much in them and secondly you can store a lot more things!

I've got a two step ladder but I'm pretty short so would have bought that anyhow if I had a standard sized cupboard. I still need to stand on the counter to reach the top shelf!

It’s 2600 so not that much taller than most houses, I just want it to look in proportion. We’re going to order in on Saturday so will ask the agent what he thinks. Will remember to ask about the shelves, thanks for that.

3500 is high! Changing lightbulbs must be a challenge Shock

My husband changes the light bulbs using a ladder not me!

I have a Victorian house - all of our ground floor ceilings are 3.5m high.

If you need extra shelves, you can get them on the aftermarket, or have them made up (better quality and fully edged) to match, in the same board that the kitchen companies use to make the cabs, including their wood grain ranges.

Kitchen companies make a lot of money out of overpriced extras.
