Wooden window sill too close to sink

Hello 😊

I have just bought a new house and the sink is in front of the window - pretty standard.

However as the window is quite low, the wooden sill is sticking out so the granite upstanding stops at the window, meaning the wood is constantly wet, as so close to the sink.

The builder says it’s ‘as per plan’ and within building regs etc.

I think it’s a design fault! Any idea if there’s any sort of regulation I can go back to them with?

Ideally I’d like the bit that is sticking out removed, and the upstand to continue along the sill (by the sink).

Thoughts?

Use yacht varnish on it ? Is it actually overhanging the sink?

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2019 06:58

I don't understand. Mine is like this, although my upstand is slightly higher than normal. Why is it getting so wet and why don't you just dry it?

wowfudge · 04/05/2019 06:59

Just get it cut back. I've lived in several houses where the kitchen windowsill was flush with the wall and tiled, i.e. you didn't even see the original windowsill.

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2019 07:00

Oh, when you say it stops at the window, you mean there is no upstand behind the sink? It's simply the sill there?

Sorry I thought it went under the sill.

For me, there’s a paper clip icon under the bit where you add a new post. Depends if you’re in the app etc though. I’m not.

I’d get the sill tiled or faced with whatever your counter tops are, making sure that the adhesive or grout is fully waterproof.

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2019 11:43

I suspect their is no law or regulation against it, but agree it's a shit design, I think you'd just have to pay to change it.

Villanellesproudmum · 04/05/2019 11:47

Agree boat varnish.

MrsFezziwig · 04/05/2019 17:13

Where are your taps then?
