Do trees in the garden add or remove value?

I'm curious if adding a few fruit trees to the garden is seen as adding value or deducting value? I thought it added value but I saw a comment that said trees needed to be removed so there could be a proper play area...

Not all people who buy houses have children, and if they want children feel the need to remove trees to have play areas - the young children age is quite a small window.

I think it's a personal thing, I personally love trees. My mother and sister hate them.

If you want trees go for it. But I would say, don't plonk them in the middle as it can be difficult to mow around, and can make the garden more inflex in usable space.

Oh, and how big is your garden.

That comment baffled me. Unless kids are playing football, trees can be fun to play around and provide a bit of shade. Not everyone wants to fry in the sun, all day.

Depends on the size and number of trees. When we moved into our house the whole of the bottom end of the garden was crammed with loads of crabapple and cobnut trees. Not being one for making jam or having a clue what to do with cobnuts we took them out, making room for a play area and trampoline. We still have a couple of lovely silver birch trees to give shade and have loads of mature beech and oaks in the lane behind our house.

For me chopping down trees should be a last option. Sure if they are causing structural damage etc, but otherwise it’s pretty reckless just to chop them down willy nilly.

We sold our old house and within a week a beautiful weeping willow and cherry tree were hacked down. Trees are important to the environment and generally it’s pretty wasteful people who chop them down for trivial reasons. However, sadly most people are selfish and don’t care about nature or our planet.

Trees rock!
Anybody who doesn't like trees is clearly a psychopath.

Would be a positive for me, but would upset people who prefer more sun in the garden.

I love trees in the garden - we have a willow, magnolia, two rowan trees and a couple of ash trees plus a self seeded horse chestnut and I'd never cut them down. We're going to relocate the horse chestnut to outside the garden soon (we back onto woodland) as it will grow too big for where it's chosen to grow but other than that they are here to stay.

Wouldn't count it in value much either way. Only thing I dislike is when someone has planted small trees with nowhere near enough space to grow into their full size like our predecessors did at last house. Generally like trees though, just need to think about them fully grown.
