Holiday home vs real home

This is a bit of a daydreaming post but please indulge me...

Currently on holiday abroad and staying in an Airbnb rental - house itself is tiny (virtually a studio) but otherwise feels v luxurious for the price (we're on a fairly low budget).

Back home we live in a terraced house in an urban area - house quite big but on tiny plot with nightmare parking and v small garden.

Here's the things that have turned my head this week:

Electric gates and big parking space within property. Can get kids in and out of car without risking being run over!
Large rectangular plot with house in middle so no chasing the shadow of the sun
Palm trees!
Panoramic views from terrace
Isolation - on edge of tiny village in mountains and occasionally see people but only from afar. Property grounds totally private

The hot tub I could take or leave tbh

Thing is, we could move further out and trade central location for bigger garden, parking etc but I've always been resistant to the idea. But I've enjoyed the isolation and freedom more than I thought! Obviously the nice weather helps...

Anyone else felt differently about where they live after a holiday? And did the feeling last?

Kind of the opposite. We did what a lot of people do and moved to the outskirts of our town (NotLondon) for a 4th bed, detached, ORP etc. We were ok for the first 5 years or so but long term we want to move back near our old place to be walking distance to everything. I never really believed in location location location, but after a few years here I've come round to it. Maybe it's a case of the grass is always greener though.

I realized how nice it is to live with less stuff Grin
I wanted to have walk in wardrobes, huge pantry etc in my house but holiday home made me feel like it is so nice to not have much to clean and tidy up...

@mum2015 yes I've often thought that half my problems would be solved by us emptying out the house and only letting back in the stuff we really need!

@MySecondBestBroomstick this is the dilemma we've had for ages, which was neatly resolved by not being able to move as I was the main earner but out of work for a long time (bank wouldn't lend us a penny). That's now been resolved and being on holiday has given me a brief glimpse of living in a different sort of property!

Everything is really convenient at the moment but we are so crammed in (compared to other homes in a similar price bracket)

Congratulations on your new job! And maybe don't listen to me - it's easy to take for granted what you do have. Two things that we really value here are dull as anything - ORP and detachedness. I'd like to say I'd trade them for mountain views but frankly I'm so boring, I might not!!
