new bathroom

We've just bought a new home and we need to put a spare bathroom upstairs - probably in a cupboard. Do I need an architect or just a good builder?

Just a good builder and plumber, assuming no need to extend the house.

(builders generally have plumbers they work with)

Whatever you do don't use B&Q

MarieG10 · 16/04/2019 18:00

Don't you need to have building regs approval?

minipie · 16/04/2019 18:05

You don’t need an architect for building regs. Often the builder can sort out approval, if not then you can call the council yourself to get approval.

Don't use Wickes either.

We are having a new bathroom put in and just got a plumber we know to come and take a look at our plan first - he could tell us what was and wasn't possible. Some things were not possible from a plumbing perspective or involved much more work one way than another so it was useful.

I always find it best to do building regs myself but just contact your council for that. A builder I had said he would but we never got any paperwork through. Tbf that may well have been council's fault not builders.

I would get a builder or plumber round for a first look. I wouldn't bother with an architect.

Just get a plumber or bathroom fitter to come and look. They can generally tell what is practical and possible.

We had a bathroom fitted last year. We found that buying online and getting an jndeendent fitter who was happy to advise and fit was much cheaper and delivered a finish we were happy with (compared with going to a store etc).

If your having any fitted units you really need a bathroom fitter, but if its just a toilet and sink a plumber is fine.

@Buddywoo do you mind sharing your experience with Wickes please? We’ve just got a bathroom quote from there - what was bad? Thank you!
