Extractor fans

How noisy are the ones flush to the ceiling? Are they any good?

I am trying to work out whether to go with a downdraft or a ceiling fan, both of which are insanely expensive and neither of which seems to be without problems - any views anyone?

Thank you!

Just go for an expelair in wall type. Needs to extract 60lps if it's not over the hob. Or 30lps if over the hob.

do you mean for a kitchen?

PenguindreamsofDraco · 16/04/2019 20:15

Yes sorry, for a kitchen. Is an expelair really powerful enough?

only if it's a really big one.

Why don't you get a canopy extractor, either in a high wall cabinet, or fixed to the ceiling?

If you look at the specifications for fans, you will see the air extraction rates (usually quoted in cubic metres per hour) and the noise (in db(A).

I think you need a 3-speed model, so mostly you can run it quietly on the slow speed, and turn it up when you are cooking hot fatty things.

for example

or this one, where the motor/fan are outside the house, attached to the wall, but the canopy is inside over the cooker.

big range on here but if you want to research, call or email Elica and ask them to send you their glossy brochure. They have a website with all the models on but it is badly designed and incredibly difficult to use.

I can message you with a supplier if you want but I would have to find it....

Fab thanks! Hob is on a peninsula and a canopy would block the sight lines, which is why I was thinking of something on the ceiling (boxed in with lights) or a downdraft. Just v expensive!

How big is your room? How high is your ceiling? The expelair one linked doesn’t look very effective from a m2/hr perspective

Whattodowithaminute · 17/04/2019 04:44

Sorry m3/hr

I had my heart set on one that is set on the centre of the hob but I’ve been told it needs to be ducted rather than recirculating and that means digging the floor, plus over a certain distance and if there are bends, booster pumps will be needed. I’m beginning to see why so many people have their sink on the island instead.
