Used 10 units of electricity to run only the fridge for a week while we were away

I've been wondering if there's a problem so before we went on holiday last week I photographed the meters.

The gas didn't move - exactly the same number

The electricity went up by 10 units. Only the fridge was on - everything else was turned off at the socket - even the microwave clock and the oven clock

How do I know if that's reasonable? Confused

A unit is one kilowatt hour

A week is 24 * 7 hours giving 168 hours

So 10KWh divided by 168 gives 60W

Checking on the Internet a usage of 1 to 2 KWh per day and this matches your power usage

A fridge freezer, on average, would use 427kwh per year, so it's probably about right.

Phew! Thank you both so much

I'm really overthinking this as my electricity provider reckons I'm £3600 in DEBIT

And they're wrong as I've just worked out I've used 3400 units over the year

Do you provide regular meter readings?

LaurieFairyCake · 13/04/2019 16:48

Not for the last few months - requires me to climb a ten foot ladder so I need it to be light and someone to hold the ladder

It's unlikely you've built up a dept of £3600 in that short a time! Have a look through your bills, see when it started. How much do you pay per month?

LaurieFairyCake · 13/04/2019 16:54

It's all online (never get a bill) - pay £98 combined per month

You must have bills online? I download them from my supplier, I can keep an eye on them that way.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/04/2019 16:59

Just looked, they are online (I've never looked) and their estimated readings are very out I think

You need to give them an updated reading and sort it out from there.
