Mortgage application/credit card spending

I know it isn't a good idea to apply for new credit whilst in the process of applying for a mortgage, but does anyone now how underwriters view putting additional spending on a credit card that you already have?

Some unexpected expenses have come up during my house moving and I could do with putting some on a card. I have sold and had offer accepted on a new place and my new mortgage is with the underwriters.

I am in the process of downsizing which will release a chunk of cash so it's not problem to clear the card as soon as the house move has happened.

I may be wrong, but providing you aren't looking to increase your credit limit or get a new card and you are not missing or making late payments then surely it's neither here nor there?

Thanks wowfudge.

I think I'm probably being over cautious and worrying unnecessarily!

I don't think they'll know, it depends on if they've done a credit check yet, which they will have done I would have thought if it's gone to the underwriters. So I would go ahead if I were y ou.

Our broker warned us they can and will keep a check and could withdraw at any point up to completion when we asked about doing similar. Don't do it would be my advise. We had exchanged at this point so if they'd pulled our mortgage our deposit would ve forfeited for not completing also. I fully believe this to be true because after we moved we started using overdrafts to swallow those costs amf nationwide wrote to us asking if we needed help as they'd noticed our circumstances had changed financially?
