Newel post balls for Victorian stairs

Hoping someone out there can help me. I live in a typical Victorian terraced house. At some point in the past someone has sawn the balls off of the top of the newel posts at the top and bottom of the stair case and I would like to put them back. I know that newel caps/balls can be bought from a variety of builders merchants etc but they are too small. I need two different sizes; a bigger on for downstairs and a smaller one for upstairs, but in a matching pair and I can't find this anywhere. I know this is a common problem in trying to restore a Victorian house and wondered if anyone had managed to find what I'm looking for?

Have you tried searching for newel post caps rather than balls? Some suppliers of stair parts probably offer bespoke parts and you could have something made for you.

Thanks, yes, have tried that. I know some people have had to have them turned for them out of wood but was just trying to buy ready made if possible

Do you have any local reclamation yards?
Might be able to find a couple of originals.

" I need two different sizes; a bigger on for downstairs and a smaller one for upstairs, "

I think you're going to have to tell us what the sizes are.

Try
www.jacksonwoodturners.co.uk
They seem to offer a bespoke woodturning service too if none of their stock ones are suitable.
I have no experience of this company as a customer or otherwise.
I do, however, have a Victorian pair of balls.

They’re local to me. I bought my banister from them. Good company.

Thanks for your responses, have saved me hours of trawling the internet. I'm sure I can get what I need from there
