We want to rent in Surrey from October. Where is nice to live in terms of good schools, things for children to do, good train links to London?
I have done a fair amount of research and there seem to be loads of nice places. It would really help to have some of your opinions. I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old.

Tigerlion - have you considered a move into Hampshire - not much further out than Surrey - where we live (Alton- market town nr Farnham - moved here 2 yrs ago from West London) is a perfect balance of being in town but with beautiful countryside minutes away - ds can see rolling hills from his classroom ! Very good primary and secondary schools, plus a really good pre-school - great shops but a lovely friendly atmosphere.Waterloo directly from here too. Easy to get back to London - under an hour on M3 and Basingstoke and Winchester in about 20 minutes for shopping. Sound like the Alton tourist info lady !

I know this is an old thread but thought it may be helpful if people are searching in the future. We've lived in nearby Gomshall for the last 10 years and can honestly say its an amazing place to bring up a family. We have a very diverse demographic in a fabulous location. Both our children have been educated to an outstanding level at Shere Infant and Nursery School with enviable academic results. The school is staffed by a very experienced team and a set of Governors who have their fingers on the pulse of the local community and the need for a provision of excellent education to all children regardless of their backgrounds.
The Surrey Hills are beautiful yes, and their are traffic issues in Shere at times, that said its not full of elderly, it's a very mixed community.

Guildford (South of A3) and villages are nice. 40mins from waterloo and quite regular.
