Help me find bedding to match curtains I don’t like....

We can’t afford new curtains yet - the previous owner left these and as the windows are huge, ready made isnt an option- made to measure would be minimum £600. We have been bought a new (larger) bed by the in-laws as a loving in present and need to buy new bedding. So, what should I choose? These are a totally different style and colour pallet to anything I would go for for bedroom curtains - I would prefer cool and fresh, natural fabrics and softer textures so I’m struggling a bit. All our other bedding is plain white which just doesn’t work with these warmer, shiny curtains....

Ebay curtains. I have long wide windows and all my curtains are second hand ebay. You could definitely sell the ones you currently have to fund new ones. Or you can get cheaper made to measure on ebay, I've seen some nice looking linen ones.

made to measure etc are always going to be expensive but you can buy perfectly nice ones to size.
Dunelm always have sales on curtainsvfor example.

Not sure how big your room is but we just covered massive windows, pretty much the legnth of the wall for £120 from next. And they're lovely too.
I know that might be £120 you don't have, but personally I'd wait it out and get what I wanted down the line, rather than trying to make something I hated work - I know if end up just changing it anyway so buying twice.

Plus if you've just moved, £120 is probably one of your smaller costs atm anyway.

Or you could just take the curtains down and buy a roller blind from somewhere like Dunelm or the range for about £30/40 for privacy and wait till you can afford to buy what you want.

I think those curtains are upside down! Just me?

Geneticsbunny · 11/04/2019 07:32

If the width is an issue just buy 2 pairs of curtains and see them together. Not perfect but will allow you to buy something new cheaply

justaweeone · 11/04/2019 07:48

I'd rather explore options for new curtains than waste money on new bedding
Those curtains would give me nightmares and make me all twitchy Grin

We bought off the shelf curtains that were less than the recommended width and I quite like them being less gathered.

I think a good midway option could be to get off the shelf and get someone to sew them together. You wouldn't be able to have much of a pattern due to repeats not matching though.

Or try Dunelm online made to measure- they are reasonable and very good quality. Or Blinds2go do made to measure curtains- not bought their curtains but the blinds are excellent quality for the price.
