West Wickham

Hi All,

We’re currently looking st places to move to outside of central London with good commutes to London Bridge ideally. We’ve found a house we absolutely love in West Wickham but are worried about transport links. I know there’s the one train line but have been told trains coming from central London back out at night to WW are dodgy. We were told that very often the service tends to be severely delayed/ cancelled after about 9:30pm which would be a big problem for us as we are very sociable. I know we could get trains to surrounding areas and get an Uber back which I wouldn’t mind doing every now and then but to have to do it on a daily basis would be too much for me.

Does anyone have any experience of transport in and out of West Wickham? Would love some advice.

Thank you! X

Looking at this with interest as we are also looking to move to West Wickham (not found a house with like though) so keen to see what people say about it.

We live in West Wickham and very rarely have a problem with trains especially now they have finished the work at London Bridge.
As a back up you can always get a fast train from Victoria to Bromley South and then it’s a short bus ride to West Wickham from there. We love living here and would not worry about trains at all!

I live in Hayes which is on the same train line as West Wickham. I find the trains from London to be absolutely fine late at night. Trains run from Cannon Street or Charing cross, and usually run to time.

Thanks that’s so helpful. One last question, what’s the south side of West Wickham like? Around coney hall, chestnut avenue etc. You seem to be able to get bigger houses but not sure on which schools you’d get into. Any advice would be appreciated.

Coney Hall is nice. Most of the kids there go to Wickham Common primary or Hayes Primary. Then on to Hayes secondary. The catchment areas shift year on year though.

Thanks that’s really helpful skippy67 and elizabethcharlotte. Will just wait until something comes on the market that we like.

If you are thinking about secondary schools then be very careful where you buy. The Hayes catchment just seems to get smaller every year. The Langley Girls catchment is bigger than the boys and includes some roads on the south side of the high street. The Langley Boys catchment is fairly small. Personally I would avoid all Harris schools.

If you want Langley secondaries then the Beckenham side of the high street - & even then you need to look at catchment areas.

If you want Hayes then the Coney hall side of West Wickham in the direction of Hayes.

The Addington and Shirley sides of WW can be a black hole for the best
Bromley secondaries.
