Plantation shutters - are they worth it?

Moved into a 1930s house, we have two huge bay windows at the front of the house, one in living room and one in main bedroom. We are quite overlooked and previous owners have kindly left roman blinds but they are breaking and we'd also like a little privacy without sacrificing the lovely natural light we get. We've had quotes for £1700 per bay - does this seem worth it? I really like the look of them

I love shutters - if you can afford it go for it.

Id only do the front of the house since they are expensive . £1700 per window seems high. I got mine from John Lewis - they contract out to s:craft and for 3 windows - 2 large ones and one for a small bedroom at the front of the property for £2700 irc

I'm sure I read somewhere that they actually add value to your home, in terms of if you ever wanted to sell.

I love ours. We have them in the lounge and in our bedroom...We couldn't quite stretch to the other front bedroom! We paid £1,000 for a large window (Not bay tho) and £500 for the bedroom, which is the same width but only about half as high. They are brilliant at cutting out light and I love that you can have the top section open for light whilst leaving the bottom closed for privacy.

I seem to be the only person that hates them, the seem like the current days equivalent of net curtains to me! Very common and it always makes me wonder what people are trying to hide, particularly when they are on every window. But I also really like to look out my windows, front and back, and I think they'd impede my view. I might change my opinion if I was really overlooked, but I think I'd prefer other options.

Thanks, everyone. The windows are huge. It's just the living room and front room we want to do. Have got two further companies coming out to give us a quote so will go from there. I love the look of them.

Hello everyone!

Had three quotes now, one was £1038 per bay with Chinese poplar wood but doesn't come with UV protection, which I think we'd need as the front of the house is south facing.

Another quote was £1350 per bay with Basswood and UV protection.

Had a chat with neighbour across the way who has shutters, she's recommended a local company so will give them a bell.

They do look fab and I can't wait to get them. Just looking at 0% credit cards 😂

Ours are amazing. We also used a local firm, it was about £700 for our large living room window.

It's south facing so it was supposedly for making the room usable in Summer. But they are actually great at keeping the room warm in winter too - can really feel the cold air when I open them in the morning.

Our window is more than 3m long and that isn't including the 'bay' ends. My neighbour said she priced curtains up and was £800+!

I live in a 1930s area and these are going up everywhere. Been inside some that have had them and sorry, I just don’t like them, they take the light out of the room even on a bright day. Some seem to trap dust more than others too and just another thing to clean.
