Landlord demands access for renovation

I'm having trouble with my landlord and not sure what my options are. I gave the two months notice required by the lease even though it meant two weeks overlap with the new place--old lease ends April 15 and new lease began April 1st. I've still got a few pieces of furniture and other items in the old place to move or donate and was planning on continuing to do laundry there, but am mostly out. Landlord has written to give notice that they are planning on doing major renovations (replacing all windows and doors) starting Monday the 8th. I told them that I was not willing to give them access for renovations unless they refunded me the last week's rent, but they insist that they are allowed entry to do repairs with 24 hours notice. Anyone have advice? Many thanks!!

The landlord is trying his luck. Yes they can have access to do emergency repairs but not to start renovations. If they want such access, offer to terminate the lease early.

Do you deal with an agent or with the LL directly? If through an agent, they will know this is rubbish so push back through them.

Thanks, the ll has been managing the property themselves, though I originally signed the lease through an agency, so not sure if I can now go to them? I did offer to terminate early and they came back with the rubbish line about being allowed access for repair with 24 hours notice

They can't force entry to your home! The 24 hour rule is only for emergencies, like a gas leak etc. Not for repairs or maintenance. Email the landlord & letting agent & tell them they dont have permission to start renovating & have no right to. Offer again to allow access only if they wish to refund you the rent.
