Help me with my weird kitchen...

Any thoughts/ ideas on layout welcome!

Kitchen is a wide galley (3.32 m by 5 m). Has wide entrance to dining room and galley at one end and front door and doorway to stairs and playroom at the other end. At the moment we just have units/sink/ range along each wall and large cupboards at the end. I don't think it's wide enough for an island but anything else we could do. The units along both walls is pretty dull and we have this big wasted space in the middle....

thats tricky. generally speaking the width of the base units each side will be 60cm each, so you should be left with 2.1m space in the middle, which isn't enough to have an island, as ideally there should be 80-100cm walkway each side of any island.

an alternative could be to use narrower units on one or both sides (you can use wall units as bases (30cm) or many companies do reduced depth (e.g. 45cm) with which you could squeeze in a narrow work bench as an island, but probably not any thing with stools to sit at. i have 45cm base units on a part of my kitchen and they are still very functional.

what do you want to use your island for? social? prep? do you need lots of storage? etc

You could just have a straight run and an island if you wanted.

Would s peninsula at the ‘dining room end’ work? Even if it only came out 120cm or so, could get a couple of bar stools round it?

Yes I'd be tempted to put a peninsula out on one side, even if you have to lose cabinets on the opposite wall to achieve it. Or you could have a long skinny island in the middle and lose one wall of units, but it's not very efficient. What about (and this may be weird) building out an almost square bulge out on one side, to make a short but wide peninsula? It would connect the 2 sides of the kitchen a bit and bring everything closer together without overdoing it. I'm thinking maybe 1/3 of the way down...?

Also if you are not having a range cooker, something like a bow fronted cooker unit like this might help add some interest.
