How to stop a trickle extractor

We've just renovated our house and the electrician insisted that we had to have trickle extractors to meet building regs. They are basically just holes to the outside with a fan that blows cold air into the house constantly and that you can't turn off. They're even in the loo which doesn't even get condensation. I can hear conversations from the street outside now! The manufacturers instructions don't say how to turn it off and a plumber we had out had no idea. Does anyone know how you turn them off? The rooms are always cold because of them.

They must have been installed backwards, they should be blowing out not in. Might be worth getting the electrician back.
If you have a window, you can have trickle extractors at a low rate or intermittent extractors at a higher rate, so make sure it really is a fan designed for trickle. You only need trickle if there are no windows and it's a habitable room

Thanks for the reply. The main bathroom has a window but the loo doesn't. Is that classed as a habitable room? Is it nonsense then that we have to have them for building regs? I suspect I'll have trouble getting him to agree to come back. Is the only way to turn them off to literally rip them out?

I think they’ve been installed incorrectly too, a relative has them in all the rooms with plumbing and the house is warm and quiet.

His house always smells so fresh too.
