Very dark paint on stairs/landing walls. Yes or no?

Paint colour dilemma.

Our house has a very small porch area which leads into the lounge and upstairs to an open landing. Lots of natural light comes down the stairs and onto the landing from a window at the top. Some natural light through the glass in the front door too, and we have put in led spots so a good amount of light when it's dark too.

At the moment the walls are a pale colour, but I'm really tempted to paint the walls a dark blue with white architraves, ceiling and bannister/ballustrade. I think it will look dramatic and if I choose the right shade it will make the walls recede and make the space feel bigger.

But if it looks rubbish or makes the space feel dark it's going to be a headache to repaint.

Has anyone done similar and what was the result?

We painted ours black under the dado and cream above with crisp white woodwork and it looks fab. Dramatic and looks fab.

I really like the idea of 2 colours but we don't have a dado so it's one or the other. Maybe too much on a full length enclosed stair wall?

Ours is a super dark grey. The same colour on the walls, woodwork and ceiling.

Stunning is what I want! I think it will look great but my husband thinks it might look like a dungeon and he's making me doubt myself.

I'd love a room with F&B Hague Blue, if you have loads of natural light that would look amazing against the white..

Do it. I think a dark colour in a hallway looks dramatic

I like dark colours too. I've seen dark blue in a Victorian terrace house's hallway and landing and it looks good.

@LarryGreysonsDoor Your hall is fabulous, you've given me some inspiration to do ours like this.

We get almost no natural light in downstairs. The front of the house faces north, is down a dip and behind a tree. There was bugger all point trying to make it bright and airy so embrace the dark.
The lights have a motion sensor and only come on to 1% after 11pm. It looks the elegant side of spooky as all fuck.
