Anyone have this? Any cautionary tales? How big are your islands to accommodate this?

Thanks!

No kettle as I have a Quooker (lifechanging!!) and coffee machine is on a tray in one of the tall cupboards.

I think I’m just going to steal your kitchen. 😀

I couldn’t get behind having an island sink (too much mess with the drying rack etc). I could probably live with an island hob, we thought about it but we chose not to (mostly for cooker good reasons). We have a generous (2m x 1.2m) island that is just counter space. One end is a bit of a dumping ground but it gets well used for kitchen activity too

Don’t have your main sink on an island. It’s best to just have the prep sink there if you use the Island for food prep. Main sinks tend to work better against a wall. You can build an extraction pipe above the ceiling to an outer wall.

We've just designed our kitchen and have decided to have hob in island (3x1m). We had to have either hob or sink in island as not enough room on back wall with units etc. . We thought hob was more sociable as we would he looking out into the room whilst cooking. We plan to have a cylinder type extractor (pic attached as an example).

I don’t have room in the kitchen for another sink - it would have to be main sink on island.

I do (or rather, will) have another sink in the nearby utility room for gross laundry/mud/burnt pots though. I usually have a pretty clear draining board.

We have a hob in the island, would have struggled with a sink too. The island is 2.7 x 90 cm.

Extractor wise we have a vaulted ceiling and just popped a small extractor fan up there, it’s fine.

I’m thinking something like this to keep kitchen mess contained a little...

We are having the quooker tap as part of the veg prep sink - so can do away with kettle (too noisy in a big room also) - and toaster / microwave / coffee machine will be on larder shelf in tall cupboard - so appliance free worktops

we didnt as couldnt see how you dont get grease/cooking splashes on the surface
most people we spoke to that had done it had regretted - and def not main sink - we ended up with slighty lopsided U and peninsula along the side (so a galley ) with cooker against wall - when I see what comes off splashback and glad dont have on other side...

Hi- we are going to get something like this too- island as only counterspace outside cupboards- so sink and hob on island. We have been told max size of island top is 3.2m or else we will need to have a join in the quartz. Do you have a join? If so how does it look? Thx

EastCoastDamsel · 22/07/2019 14:49

I am having a 3m x 1.2m is island with a hob and ovens in my new kitchen. Had initially included a prep sink on the one end but have decided to stick to one large sink under the window and have a breakfast bar on the end instead.

As for extraction, I believe that is is a building reg requirement to have extraction in a kitchen, and so I have settled on this www.neff-home.com/uk/productlist/extractor-hoods/worktop-installation/downdraft-hood which is vented out underneath the floor.
