Flooring - can you get discounts and if so, how?

We're getting quotes on flooring options, mainly LVT and Karndean, from places like Howdens and high street/retail park stores. Obviously Howdens do the trade discount via the builder, but with the others is the quote they give us for product and fitting their fixed and final price? We're a bit naive and have been mugs in the past paying over the odds on things, but also don't want to offend. Grateful for any wisdom and - if discounts are possible - tips on how to get them.

I got about a third off flooring but we were buying a kitchen at same and got offered a third of sale price by end of day by manager - DH kept uming and aaring and it was a lot of money just out of grasp so manager kept raising discount and adding free things in. Had to agree that day. Worth waiting for sales sometimes, otherwise just go in store and ask for a discount.

We bought amtico from lifestyle flooring direct at a discount. We had originally been quoted 7.5k for kardean but now paying 2.5k buying the floor and getting a local fitter

We’re getting Amtico half price with our new kitchen.

This is heartening, thank you. Sounds like it's worth just coming out and asking then. Amazing to get down from 7.5 to 2.5! Even £500 off would make a big difference to us so glad to hear they're amenable.

Open a Howdens account yourself?

Reading out of interest as we're currently floor shopping. But unfortunately we never get discount anywhere as my DP loves to exclaim to me
'OH THAT'S CHEAPER THAN I EXPECTED!' immediately after any salesman suggests any price.

Grin Yes, I can see it's hard to come back from that. I've yet to be pleasantly surprised by a cheap quote, but think I'm scared to look like we can't afford it, even if we can't. It's like they'll find out I'm not a grown up. Ridiculous! Will practice the umming and aahing.

I got a third off LVT at our local place by asking if they would pricematch Carpetrite. I'd done my research and was buying a brand I was pretty sure supply the Carpetrite own brand stuff, and was buying a similar level product (cheaper end).

The fitters tend to be self employed so go after a discount on the product, not the fitting, with the shop. Or go direct through an independent fitter.
