I have just had a quote to build a brick wall and steps in my back garden approx 1m high by 15m. Is it just me or is this quote ridiculously high? What are the going prices?

3.5k to build a forty five foot retaining wall and garden steps with a base of six foot? And th associated foundations?

I don't want to be rude, but I'm assuming your dad is not self employed or own his own business as the materials alone would cost more than that,

@Bluntness100 I don’t want to be rude either but considering my dad has been a bricklayer since he left school and is now pushing 60 and you said yourself you’re no expert then I would keep your assumptions to yourself. Hmm

Quick google search for a quote doesn’t even come close to 12.5k Confused

Does he charge clients and is he involved in pricing? Because I'm not kidding that is a very very low price. It wouldn't even cover materials and labour.

BanginHeadache · 01/04/2019 18:25

Yes he does. Probably built more garden walls than you can shake a stick at but since you yourself have had one wall built then you know best as per Smile.

Bluntness100 · 01/04/2019 18:29

Ok, cam you give the op his contact details, I'm sure she'd be beyond delighted to pay him 3.5 k and pay for any accommodation for him when he does it. It will still be well cheaper than any other person will quote.

Op, looks like you've got yourself a winner. This posters dad would do it all of 3.5 k, inc digging out and building your foundations..and your steps.

BanginHeadache · 01/04/2019 18:32

@Bluntness100 I really don’t know why you always turn to sarcasm and snottiness when someone doesn’t agree with you Hmm
Are you or are you not a qualified bricklayer? Yes it might seem a cheap quote to you, probably was a basic answer from my dad when I asked him but still wouldn’t be 9ks worth of difference.
Really really don’t know why you seem to think you know everything, honestly it’s weird.

Bluntness100 · 01/04/2019 18:38

I really have no desire to argue with you, as you're posting nonsense, others have even posted the labour and materials would be more than this, without thr foundations, and without knowing rhe size of the steps.

But I'm serious, if your father will do it for 3.5 k then give rhe op his contact details, prove it.

BanginHeadache · 01/04/2019 18:50

No another poster who’s partner was also a BUILDER said they could do it for 5k. Someone said save 10k and do a bricklaying course yourself. How is it nonsense than an actual bricklayer said they could average it for 3.5k, depending on day rate, area etc.
But nah you’re right...as always. And literally nobody has anything to prove to you Confused how odd.
