If you have a white house...

... what colour are your windows?

Am buying a (white) house that needs windows replacing. Currently has white timber, traditional windows. Deciding whether to stick with that or to do something completely different.

Black

Alexalee · 25/03/2019 11:46

They were dark brown before... black looks more modern

Spanglybangles · 25/03/2019 15:27

Was also going to say black. There is a white house with black framed windows on our street and it’s looks very smart.

another20 · 25/03/2019 15:29

What style / era is the house?

Pale grey also looks very smart - sort of New England colour scheme.

ChinUpChestOut · 25/03/2019 15:36

I have a 1960s square house and I recently replaced all the windows, and had matt black window frames. My windows are big so I was able to have quite deep frames - but a wider frame can also look good on smaller windows I think. I painted the house pure white (RAL 9003), and have a black front door. I think it looks really sharp!

Black.

PinkPaperCrown · 25/03/2019 15:45

Black outer frames, white inner frame. Ours is a 2017 new build.

Closetlibrarian · 25/03/2019 16:07

Hmm - thanks everyone. Seems that black is the consensus! I too worry that it might date, but agree it looks smart.

The house looks like a Georgian cottage (although built more recently than that). It's got a lot of windows/ doors!

very pale blue (verging on teal) with matching doors too, and everyone says how nice it looks!

Alexalee · 25/03/2019 16:41

Black wont date as much as any of the faddy colours like teal green or battleship grey

Closetlibrarian · 25/03/2019 16:49

Yes, I agree Alexalee. I worry the black would be a bit in your face - there are 5 sets of half-panel french doors on the back of the house, which might be a lot of black...

White windows, then paint the house cream (or grey or pale pink)

another20 · 25/03/2019 17:08

You can do the back different colour from the front IMO

We have the back white as it is south facing and were concerned about the expansion of the black doors in the sun all day. Black at the side and front though, all white internally

LynetteScavo · 25/03/2019 20:00

Bob.,I always think widows like that must be ££££

XingMing · 26/03/2019 12:42

Late 70s house, looks like a bungalow from the street, with large lansdcape wooden windows. Ours required refurbishing so we had them stripped and oiled in a teak colour. It's a huge improvement on peeling varnish and was far cheaper than replacements. Plus, it's totally in keeping with the property's period and design.

BigFatGiant · 26/03/2019 12:44

Black will date. Blue, heather or stone depending on where you live/what plants you have and paint the door to match.

KingsHeathen · 26/03/2019 12:50

We're boring and have white at the front, sage green at the rear.

WineGummyBear · 26/03/2019 18:30

We are about to put blue windows in on our white house.
