I live here! I think it is a very welcoming place, although a lot of people who move here find it a bit restrictive being an island. A trip to the mainland to see friends or family is expensive and also you have to plan it all because of the boats, especially during the holiday period. You cant just hop in the car and drive to see people further away like you can on the mainland.

Our house is on the market.... buy it!!! You would love it!! Smile

No I am not!! I live in Newport and we want to go totally rural - as rural as we can be ie: no neighbours for as far as the eye can see! Smile Still on the island though.

I’m also on the island - in Cowes. We love it having lived in Wales, USA and Hampshire.
People are always moving to the island so we everyone is generally very friendly.

Yes, you have to plan ahead to leave by ferry but my husband commutes daily to the mainland and that’s easy enough - and there’s lots to do here too.

Have you got children OP. Some of my relatives who live on the Island who have teenagers have found they have to travel to the mainland or even live with a host family on the mainland so that they can study for the a levels / college courses they want. IMHO it is a great place when you have young children and a great place once the children have left home but maybe a bit restrictive the teenagers and young adults.
