Belfast sink and boiling water tap

Morning all. I hoping someone may have some knowledge on this please.
Our kitchen company have said we are unable to have a boiling water tap fitted with a Belfast sink. I have no idea why!
I can't imagine the water would be too hot, and I presume there would be enough room under the sink for the tank?
Does anyone have the two together or know anything about it?
Thank you

might be because the boiling water tap needs space for the tank/heater underneath which cant be accommodated below the belfast sink but without further info it's difficult to say.
I would ask the kitchen company why they cant get it to work - then once they have explained the problem come back here and we can see if a solution is available!
we have a belfast sink and I'm thinking of retrofitting a boiling water tap so interested to hear what they say.

I'm thinking Belfast sinks are ceramic? I'd imagine that in winter mornings when the sink is very cold, any contact with boiling water is likely to snap it right in half. Not something I'd risk!

Notanalien · 23/03/2019 09:45

Of course you then also couldn't empty hot pans in there so my theory is probably rubbish!

i regularly empty boiling water into my belfast sink so it's not that. they are deeper than normal sinks so i reckon it is a space issue but I'm sure the heater could be located in an adjacent base unit.

Franke do a boiling water tap where the boiler sits behind the plinth so if it’s space in the cupboard that should solve it!

We're in the process of having our kitchen fitted. We have a Belfast sink, once the work tops have been fitted we will be having a 3 in 1 hot water tap fitted. There has never been an issue regarding this. Kitchen company just needed measurements of tank so they could accommodate this in the cupboard space and sink.

I have both, a deep Belfast and a quooker. The clearance between the top of the cooker isn’t as much as it should be but quooker have serviced twice and not turned a hair.

They are definitely playing on the manufacturer clearance issue rather than boiling water cracking the porcelain. I would ask them to adjust the under sink cupboard by lowering the shelf to make allowances.

*Quooker not cooker!

Bouncydog, I was just about to offer the same advice regarding Franke!

Link here, I’m going to get one too.

There’s a picture further down the page to show the set up.

Thanks all. I've investigated it further and they say it is a health and safety issue as it might crack..

There are boiling water taps that include a draining area so theyou aren't fitted over a sink. If you have the space it could be a solution.

Hi, I am in the same situation now- did you end up getting the boiling water tap and Belfast sink? I’d really like both but have been told the sink could crack because of the boiling water?

BBons · 23/01/2022 22:04

I’m in the same situation now! Magnet say can’t have belfast as it’ll crack, kitchen fitter disagreed and said it’d be fine as not going to be running the tap directly into the sink anyways 🤷🏼‍♀️ What was your verdict, did you go for it?

Sparklespangle · 23/01/2022 22:07

Blimey I pour hot stuff into my Belfast sink all the time. Boiling kettle water, spattering oil etc. Had it 8 years no issues

BBons · 24/01/2022 06:11

Thank you so much for replying, that’s great to know Smile

I’ve had a Quooker in use with my Belfast sink for 8 years now. Haven’t had any problems.
