Rewiring a 2 bed terrace

Could anyone give me a rough guide as to how much it would generally cost to rewire a 2 bed terrace? We're thinking of putting our house on the market but the electrics are pretty old. We've been here for around 13 years and the people we bought from must have been about the same.

I'm no good with stuff like this but the electric box looks pretty old. Wondering if it's something worth doing before going on the market or just to leave it as I assume it's going to be a BIG expense!

Any advice greatly recieved!! Thank you!

Do you need a full rewire or just a new consumer unit? I'd get it tested first and see if you can avoid it, as rewiring can be messy dusty work. The actual rewire would probably be around £3k but if they are chasing in cables etc you might have to redecorate throughout.
It's also a good idea to speak to an estate agent who knows your local market - we were going to replace the tired but serviceable bathroom in our one bed flat before selling but the advice was that, although we might recoup the cost, we'd be unlikely to make a profit from doing that work - so it wasn't worth the hassle for us.

Thank you AwkwardPaws27 I hadn't realised you could just change the consumer unit. I'll get someone in to test it as ideally we'd rather not spend a huge amount on it!

Our full rewire and new consumer unit cost £2000 in 2009. The electrician was found via friend who used him all the time on his rental portfolio.
