Hey strange problem but washing my hands I noticed my bathroom sink has sprung a leak. Investigated and found that the waste pipe had become loose and come away from the sink. Retightened it however 10 mins later heard a bang and it had fallen off again. Anyone any advice can't really afford a plumber but I'm thinking I could maybe fix it myself maybe new washer thingy?! Any advice?

I think the pipe is too short though I have been here for two years was ok until now

I think there is a rubber ring inside the nut, and that as you tighten the nut, it is squeezed against the pipe to grip it. The ring might be missing. Unscrew the nut and see what parts there are.

You can buy a new sink trap quite cheaply. Please photograph the rest of the trap attached to the sink.

A bathroom basin is a smaller size waste, trap and pipe than a kitchen sink.

I checked the pipe and the black ring is still in it if I lift the pipe up and screw it in it falls back out like it's not gripping it

Clean the nut, pipe and ring with detergent and leave them wet.

Slide the nut down the pipe

Slip the ring round the end of the pipe.

Press the end of the pipe into the trap. The ring will be pushed down the pipe a bit as it fits into the socket.

Keep pressing the pipe up into the trap.

Slide the nut up the pipe and tighten it onto the trap while continuing to press the pipe up.

Tighten the nut some more. Rubber gloves will help you grip it.

The ring goes on the outside of the pipe.
