Luxury vinyl plank flooring - dark grey?!

Has anyone got this flooring? We are thinking of having it all the way through downstairs in our new house. Hubby wants dark grey but I’ve never seen it in a house and am worried it will look too dark. Picture added for info. He wants it in the main living, dining and kitchen.

We've got it in our bathroom but every other surface is white so it's fine.
I could get away with it in the kitchen diner as there's loads of light but I wouldn't have it in an enclosed / shady area.

To be fair its not a "solid" dark grey and does reflect done light so it's better than say a dark grey carpet or painted wall.

I wouldn't worry about it being dark, plenty of woods would be darker than that, and lovely. It's a bit lacking in warmth though, which would put me off using it in all the main living areas.

I agree with you on dark grey. We have dark grey tiles in a dark kitchen. They just make it so much darker.

I wouldn't have grey walls with it. It needs some colour against it.

Dark and light colours show dirt more than mid tones.

Personally, I would avoid anything that's a colour trend for a hard finish. Grey is on its way out, and aside from the difficulties of maintaining a dark floor, I fear the colour choice may date your home quite quickly. If you like wood but real is too expensive, I'd go for an lvt that's as close to natural wood as you can get.

We have it in our bathroom and it is fairly dark. It would work as long as everything else is white/light.

I agree that grey is on its way out. But does anyone know what colour or style is to be fashionable next? I'm thinking of doing a lounge floor and dont know what to choose, but it must be LVT. Thank you.

Warmth in the brown spectrum is next! I’m no fan of brown, but do like a bit of warmth, so wood and wood effect floors are a win. Colours come and go, but natural materials have an enduring appeal. If it were me and I was going for LVT, I’d go for a mid-tone European oak wide plank style. The natural mid tones (without a stain) are also the most versatile colour-wise and easiest to keep looking smart.

Thank you Lingauphile. I like the colour of birdseye maple in Art Deco furniture which I think might fit the criteria. I haven't been able to find it in LVT yet though.

I'm house hunting at the moment and I've just refused point blank to view any houses with grey laminate. Hideous stuff. I don't think I'm alone on this view. So if you're likely to be moving soonish, bear that in mind.

Mosaic123 · 19/03/2019 19:11

I agree ColeHawlins. We are buying a place that needs new flooring in lounge and hall. It is not a small area so I want to get something "timeless" but not dark.
