Neighbors

I moved into new property last June and all has been good with neighbours. One are couple like us the other are disabled couple due to lifestyle/accident and both have been no issue.
Fence on disabled couples side came down and they have 2 massive dogs. Popped over as in deeds fence is shared and though I didn’t expect them to pay I thought I would discuss.
I got told fence is nothing to do with them, told a tale of how previous owners to people we bought off, had removed some trees.
Either way I accepted I would need to pay and got in with getting in place. However I’m paying for concrete posts and have noticed that neighbours have attached a roofing structure to the current fence.
So I’m only getting fence done to that as it’s still strong at that point.

So here is my issue, I want to make sure I’m not getting to get done over when that bit breaks. It’s a joint owned fence and I’m happy to get the current broken bit fixed but I’m not going to pay for them to have a roof attached to a fence they technically should be paying for. Any thought without upsetting too many people?

Put it to them that the fence is jointly owned and they should pay half.

When they deny it, say that you will repair your fence as you consider necessary, and will they please remove their roof from your fence.

you must look at the Land Registry documents for your house, and theirs, to see if thyey say who is responsible for the fence. This overrides any opinion you or your neighbours might have.

Only use the .gov website, not the scammers who load fees on you.
