I grew up there, there are some very nice, expensive parts and some less expensive parts... Very good senior school... Close to the A38 and A50... Decent enough local shopping area and Sainsbury's and Tesco in the surrounding areas.

I would say a nice place to live but I am a bit biased Smile

It depends what your budget is really? If you look on Rightmove it includes places like Sunnyhill and bits of Normanton and personally I would avoid that side. The immediate area round the High School is nice and there are a couple of large estates also off the same road.

Littleover School is also at the bottom of the hill where the High School is located and the surrounding areas there are nice. I'm not too sure what Heatherton is like as I moved from the area when that was being developed. I think they're building more new houses around there at the moment.

Mickleover is also very nice and not far from the High School.

What price range are you looking in?

fleabaglet · 14/03/2019 12:20

200k. we `re in a 3 bed semi currently on a nice estate. so similar really. whats it like crimewise? we live in a really quiet/ family friendly suburb of a town (kings lynn norfolk).

so a nice 3 bed semi/ detached with garage. allthough dh dreams of a 4 bed (i dont)! ds ASD year 7. not "city" type. so sen is important for him at secondary.

The really 'naice' bits are a bit pricey so £200k might not stretch too far, you probably would be looking more in the Sunnyhill area. Some of the areas around Blagreaves Lane are ok. The new estate they're building off Rykneld Road looks like it has some property's in budget and you'll probably find something in Heatherton too.

So you will find something, you'd just need to get a feel for the area Smile

I haven't lived there for nearly 20 years, but it was a lovely place to grow up and felt safe. I'd move back there if I could afford it! Well that and the fact it would add another 25 mins on to my commute Wink

fleabaglet · 14/03/2019 13:09

we need a day out in derby don`t we!

I did ask about Belper a while back.....its within commuting distance. Lots to consider

I looked at Littleover and Mickleover when I was moving last year and both areas seemed really nice. I spent 4 trips there but ultimately bought outside Derby.

You should be able to find something decent for 200k and if you are wiling to do work, you may gain more space.

Greggers2017 · 14/03/2019 13:35

I looked at mickleover and littleover before moving to derby but settled on Hilton. We got a 4 bedroomed town house with conservatory for £195k

smurfmonkey · 14/03/2019 14:30

Yes I think you definitely get more for your money around Hilton, it's outside the City so isn't a suburb of Derby.

I have family in Belper, it's ok and has a nice town feel to it, again, parts of it are nicer than others. You get more snow there!

If you're looking to relocate this way then I'd definitely recommend a day out in Derby. Have a drive around Littleover, Mickleover, Spondon, Chellaston, Oakwood and then further out to Hilton, Etwall to the south west and Belper to the north. West Hallam to the west is also nice and commutable to Nottingham and Derby.

fleabaglet · 14/03/2019 15:42

snow...thats a novelty! so which bits of belper are dodgy/ not so nice?

fleabaglet · 14/03/2019 15:44

allstone lee/ acorn drive belper?

OP posts:
smurfmonkey · 14/03/2019 21:15

I don't know that side of Belper at all unfortunately, I know the other side of the river around Belper Lane is nice and that you'd be better off avoiding the Park Estate (Park Rd) although the new estate off that from Walnut Road is ok and nice and quiet in general.

fleabaglet · 15/03/2019 07:37

thankyou!

There are some lovely villages close to Littleover. Etwall is beautiful, Hatton is lovely.

Hilton is nice but I personally wouldn't live there.
There's a nice new estate being built by Littleover Lodge. Know a couple of colleagues who are moving there.

You need to avoid Allenton, Normanton, pear tree, sunnyhill and Cavendish. They're all a bit rough.

elasticfantastic · 16/03/2019 04:35

Have a friend who teaches in Littleover... very good schools there. Most teachers prefer not to live where the school is though so as not to be constantly bumping into students and parents. Any where around 10-15 miles away is easy commute. As per pp, for around £200k look at Hilton, belper, Oakwood, borrowash, all decent areas where you'll get something decent for that price. Although Hilton is basically a newish build big estate that people seem to like but it wouldn't be my cup of tea.

Agree with pp west Hallam is nice but not to be confused with Kirk hallam... def avoid Kirk hallam!

Avoid sinfin, chaddesden norminton,
