Double glazing advice

I want to get new double glazing for my 3 bedroom mid terraced house, based in Surrey. I’m completely clueless on this subject and don’t want to have glazing salesmen come to my house just yet.

Can anyone advise on cost, this would be for 6 windows, 2 of which are bay windows that are 3.5 metres wide. The other 4 windows are about 1.5 metres wide

Also, can anyone recommend any good double glazing brands to use

Thank you

Avoid Everest
also bay windows can be expensive, ours was classed as 3 Windows as it is rectangular with three sides. So when we did what we thought was 3 Windows at the front, it was actually 7 of them.
We went for velfac in the end which are timber and aluminium and used in a lot of commercial projects as they are very durable.

I’d call up two or three local Companies and get them to quote you. Stay away from Everest etc. We had ours done last year and the difference is amazing. Much warmer in the house and quieter too.

Im having mine replaced tomorrow! I am also using a local firm, i had safestyle come out and the salesman was beyond pushy and he was here for 90 mins trying the hard sell and insisting that i need scaffolding etc etc. My local firm popped round, he was here 20 mins, measured up asked me what i wanted and gave me a price that was 2/3rds cheaper and laughed hysterically when i asked about scaffolding. I had no idea on the cost, but chap said that windows start around £600 for the basic double glazing. Im having 3 windows and a door replaced, 2 windows are 2.4m wide, they are double glazed sash with external astrical bar and sound proofing as i live on the A4. I also wanted the windows and door to be as near identical to the original as my cottage is 200 years old, im paying just shy of £4k.

Don't bother with any of the national companies, just go local. I can't remember which one we had round to quote (mainly out of curiosity) but they sent a 12 year d who told us he'd never been in a house that didn't have double glazing before Hmm Then quoted a price that was about 3 times the other quotes, before coming up with a 'special price' which was only available if we signed up there and then. It was still double the local companies.

As a rough estimate I think it works out at about £500 per window with a bay counting as 3 windows. We paid about £5000 for 7 standard windows, one bay and 2 doors (one uPVC, one composite).

Get quotes from three companies. I had one national, one small local business recommended by a neighbour, and a larger local company with lots of highly rated reviews.
The small business quoted lowest, the national quoted really high then reduced to 50% more than the small company but with a longer guarantee, the larger local quoted twice the smaller company and wouldn't budge at all. I'm going to see the small companies samples before deciding.
Look out for neighbours getting theirs done and ask if they'd recommend who they used.
Your bay will probably be made up of three windows, not one.
