Triple glazing

Hi. We're thinking about triple glazing - is it worth having? Is there a noticeable difference to heating bills? Thanks.

We have a triple glazed bifold door in the kitchen so a huge glass area. The kitchen is the warmest room in the house.

The cost difference was only £200 from what I remember and we have no regrets.

Is your kitchen north or south facing? Ours is north and in the for a couple months in the winter because of other houses the wall gets zero sunlight.

We put triple glazing into our whole house about 6 years ago. It was still cheaper with a local company than the quote from Anglian Windows.

The salesperson had a heat lamp that he shone through our old double glazing and then through his sample. The difference was marked!

I've been told that current double glazing probably performs as well as our old triple now we are looking to extend but we'll probably still go for triple again. I like the sound proofing and I still think it keeps the cold out better. We are in Scotland so need it! Our kitchen is also north facing.

I'm still not 100% sold on triple glazing if I'm honest.

Although I can imagine properties in the most Northern part of the country where it's colder would probably benefit.

That link has good advice and I agree with almost all of it. We've not had any issues with condensation at all and ours are now 6 years old. And we've not noticed any difference in light either. New glass will always look clearer than old glass.

We were switching from old wooden double glazing but the garage conversion had newer UPVC double glazing and that's the one we used for the heat lamp test.

At the end of the day it's always down to cost. I wouldn't have gone for triple had it not been cheaper than the quote we had from Anglian for double.

Our kitchen with the triple glazed bifold is north facing. We have a mid terraced house in London so generally warm without the heating on anyhow.

Absolutely @soakedat3 it all comes down to cost and who is offering the better deal.

That's great you got it cheaper than double!
